For many online businesses, the primary source of customers is either organic or paid search engine traffic. Increasing paid search engine traffic is easy, just increase your ad budget and buy more pay per click ads. Increasing organic search engine traffic is much harder. But the good news is that there are only two factors you need to focus on: on page seo and off page seo.
On page seo is the easiest thing to do, because it is completely in your control. There is simply no excuse for poor on page seo, because you control all aspects of it. The reason why most people don’t do this well is that they simply don’t know what to do.
The very first thing you should do is make sure that you have a good domain name. Ideally, it should contain the keyword that you are targeting. Next, make sure that the url to your webpage also contains the targeted keyword. After that, ensure that the keyword is in the title, description and headline of the page. Also make sure that your meta keywords include the term and a few semantically related keywords. Add an image that is named for the keyword and make sure that it is labeled with the keyword. Finally, make sure that the keyword is sprinkled through your content at a density of 2 to 4%.
Off page seo is much harder. They key is to build quality links and to build a lot of them. Links from contextually relevant pages with high page rank count a lot more than links coming from pages with unrelated content.
The best way to get links is to write great content and then let other bloggers know that you have great content by contacting them. If they see that your content is good, they will link to you. You can also get links by writing articles and submitting them to article directories like ezine articles. You can also post articles on web 2.0 sites like squidoo, too.
